Future of Medicine Atlas: where the world's doctors and nurses are

The StarMediQ Atlas shows physicians and nurses/midwives per 1,000 people for every country, using figures that national authorities report to the World Health Organization, republished by the World Bank (World Development Indicators, CC BY 4.0).

Each figure shows its reporting year. Countries count health workers differently, so the Atlas explains the limits of each number and keeps every past release. Values are reviewed by the StarMediQ data team before publication.

Which healthcare work can AI do? Using the International Labour Organization's 2025 task-level generative-AI exposure scores (CC BY 4.0), the Atlas shows 37 health occupations task by task. Doctors, nurses and dentists are rated "Not exposed"; medical secretaries and medical-records staff are among the most exposed. Exposure means technical potential, not job loss.
